dual socket

Post by User1234 »

Hello All,

Would like to build an HTPC from parts on 3 desktops from 08-11 and a goid friend of mine highly recommended this site.
Haven't built anything like this before. Want a drive for media, torrenting, and backup. Would a dual socket motherboard be a lot better for this?

Appreciate any advice

No need for dual CPU for that purpose...heck you can even use a raspberry pi micro PC.
You want low power consumption, low noise, low heat, smallest chassis possible. And to use lower RPM hard drives designed for NAS/DVR use....running 24/7 with minimal noise and heat output.

Put up a list of the parts you have available and let's see what we can do about putting it together.

Thanks gentlemen.

Here's what I have from them
Processors:
Intel E2220 Pentium Dual Core 2.4 GHZ
AMD Athlon 64x2 ADA3800DAA5CD
AMD Phenom HD9500WCJ4BGD

RAM: (would like to purchase new due to low cost

6 Hard Drives ranging from 250 GB - 500 GB
Under the impression I may need to get 1 or 2 new WD 1 TB drives to keep the noise down. As I understand it the new drives don't have moving parts and don't make near the noise the older ones do.

2x 1GB 1Rx8
2x 1GB 2Rx8
2x 512 MB 1Rx8
2x 512 MB DDR DIMM
2x 1GB DDR DIMM

Video Card: HD4350 PCI-E(41D) DDR2 512MB DVI
Is a good looking card with decent specs.
I aquired 2 of the desktops from retrieving the data off a hard drive in 1 of them. A lighting strike appeared to damage it from what she told me so the card could be fried. Had no trouble with the hard drive though.

Want the PC to be able to create and process lossless audio of at least 24 bit 96 kHz quality. The AVR can convert to 1080p, yet would like the cpu to be able to do so as well

Realize I will need to purchase some components I believe to do this, just unsure of what's needed.

Really appreciate the assistance gentlemen.
