Hello, I am currently staying in a college dorm, and have had many problems with my internet. When playing games with two friends in the same room, they both have ~40 ms ping, while I have anything between 40-500 ms ping. We are all using wireless internet, but only I have high ping. I have tried updating my network drivers, scanning for viruses/malware/spyware, disabling my firewall and antivirus, and changing to Google DNS. I've also tried using a USB wireless network adapter, which gave me increased download and upload speeds, but didn't fix the high ping. Can someone help me figure out why my ping is so high?

5ghz frequency/connection on your Dual Band router
Your friends might be connected to the 5ghz frequency/connection on your Dual Band router. You might be running on a 2.4 ghz at a highly congested channel. Atheros routers might have issues connecting with the 5ghz band. Try to check and then compare the bands/channels with your friend's laptops.
