weird memory error on X79 system

Post by Mark »

having an issue where windows reports 24GB usable, but cpuz shows 32 installed.

in bios it shows 32GB but has an error................

Image

also the timings are different on this one stick in bios.............

Image

i have reset BIOS to defaults and then reset the memory to auto and same thing happens.

this is what windows shows...........

Image

it just started doing this as far as i can remember , and i wonder if that is why my gflops in intel burn test is lower than before.

any idea on how to fix this ?

maybe run memtest or something

memory is .Gskill F3=1600C9-8GXM according to cpuz running at 1600 and 1.50 volts'

4930K on a asus x79deluxe, 32GB of gskill 1600

BIOS up to date? Swap RAM to different slots? Could be bad RAM or a bad slot on the MOBO. You could also try manually setting the RAM timings.

ram memtest and it only saw 24GB of ram, swapped the offending stick to another slot, and i get the same issues, even had to reset cmos to get it to boot, this time it showed the correct timings in bios for all sticks, but windows and speccy still shows 24GB, time for a RMA i guess

What happens when you don't put that stick of RAM in?

will try that as i need to get serial number off that stick for RMA anyways.

the bios showed the same warning in the different slot that i moved the stick to

Is the RAM you got specifically approved/compatible with that make/model motherboard? Meaning you ordered that exact part number based on a selection guide. Or is it just "any old stick of RAM that is the correct type and speed"?
