Local Group Policy Editor

Post by Easto »

We are soon to become a 1 PC family. I have setup a separate User Account for my wife. I am always logged in as Admin. Although she has been schooled in safe use practices I still worry about something slipping by and corrupting other data on the computer. We are quite religious about backing up our data, so the loss of any data isn't really an issue. I just want to try and prevent having anything major happen and then having to reinstall or something like that. The extent of her computer use is Web and email.

This is the first time I've ever opened and looked closely at the Local Group Policy Editor. I've noticed that there are some Administrative Templates. I know this is going to be a learning process but I was also wondering if there are any 3rd party templates or where I can go to better understand of what things need to be addressed and which don't?

No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Win 7 pro. Thanks I'll check out that link.

How do I change the policy for just my wife? While I'm logged in as admin I have changed one of the policies but it seems to apply for both Logins? I know it's something simple but I'm obviously missing the concept of having a policy assigned just to her.

Let me take this one step further. I manually run CCleaner when I'm logged in, but when she is using the computer I would like it to run automatically when she logs off.

I know I'm just talking to myself right now but I am starting to understand some of this. In order for her to see certain things under my login, I need to share them with her user. Although I'm still interested in finding out how to restrict her from downloading something onto the computer etc.
