networking micron & custom built

i am using dsl on my current machine (200 MHz w/ win98) which is about to be networked to a new machine (733 w/ win2000pro). Both will have to have access to the internet via my dsl line and share files between the two.what kind of setup should i be looking for and will i gain any speed by hooking my dsl modem up to my newer machine instead of my older one or not? thanks
