Antivirus freeware
Interesting read to keep on top of the latest advances: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-fr ... .htm#Panda
15 years ago I was all about InnoculateIT and AVG.
Had the best luck recently with layers of Malwarebytes, MSSE, and SuperAntiSpyware, with a bit of ComboFix when *it hit the fan.
Going to give the Panda cloud a try.

Typically use MSE for all my freebie jobs, friends/neighbors/family.
Been giving Panda a shot for the past week or so on my laptop here.....just to see how it's going.
BitDefender also released a new free version which performs well....and BitDefenders detection rates have been good lately.

Never too happy with BitDefender, bad detections rates and very hard on the system. That was a couple years ago though, will give it another try.

Another thing I'm doing more and more lately...as a tip.
For home users, set your routers DNS servers to one of the "Safe DNS services" out there.
I used to always use OpenDNS. But they removed some of the features from their free product...so it has less blocking of malware distribution sites now.
However, there are others like Comodo Sesur DNS
http://www.comodo.com/secure-dns/support/faq.html
and
Norton Connect Safe.
https://dns.norton.com/dnsweb/homePage.do
Your computer uses DNS to be able to navigate the internet.
Safe DNS services will block known malware distribution sites and domains via a constantly updated list. Your computer cannot download what it cannot find.
It is a great added layer of protection.

Ewww...AVG can't find a herpe in a mexican who-ore house! The bottom of the bottom of the bottom of the barrel man! And it bogs down computers like mad, and its browser plugin bar makes a mess of the browser. I wouldn't even put that on my ex wifes computer!Prey521 wrote:MSE has fallen off a bit in terms of speed and accuracy. I use AVG now for the freebie installs.
Yeah MSE has fallen a bit in detection...but the truth is, with todays web based rogue/malware threats....they are all falling quite a bit. On my own laptop MSE has jumped up and grabbed stuff, blocked it. But yeah it's not 100% ....nor is anything.
Speed...that's not relevant of MSE, that's your rig getting old 'n slow! :P
If you don't keep your web players up to date...(Java, Adobe Flash, Adobe PDF)....I don't care what antivirus you run, the new malware slips right on by. Even the best of the best...Kaspersky and Eset and G-Data...I see stuff slip past them.
