I wasn't with her to talk her out of it but she recently renewed her contract with AT&T and decided to get the LG Quantum (she likes the slide out KB)...holy hell this thing sucks horribly. Maybe I'm just spoiled using my Atrix and the wonderful world of Android but MS should be ashamed of this crap.
Updating was a 2+ hour ordeal and you are REQUIRED to have the Zune software on your computer to update it, and even downloading the latest version from the net the Zune software itself requires 2 updates and a restart before starting the phone update. Then the phone took another 2 updates to get it updated.
Of course none of her contacts were ported over properly and so she will have to spend several hours straightening them up.
No way that I could see to filter FB contacts out of the normal phone contact area without deleting the FB account from the phone and only using the FB app...the FB app would not even allow the screen to rotate when the phone is sideways to utilize the slide out kb.
The whole phone contact section is just effed up beyond comprehension.
The 'home' page is boring and useless...you can't move any of the shortcuts around and if you add something you use a lot it automatically defaults to the bottom with no apparent way to move it up --After playing around with it a bit I was able to move the shortcuts around which was a plus.
She only got the phone today so I haven't had and extensive amount of time to tweak and some of the issues that I've listed might be fixable but good grief this phone is definitely going back tomorrow and getting her an Android phone. She might just have to get used to using a touchscreen keyboard...I didn't like it at first on my Atrix but I have adjusted to it.
The only positives I have for the phone is it boots quickly(a feature no one really needs in a phone) and screen transitions are relatively smooth. And I do like the keyboard layout better than my Atrix.
Yeah I'm not anti-iOS either, I have never personally owned one but the few times that I have played with a friend's it was a pleasant experience and would not hesitate to get one.
Just to let you know that windows phone 7 will be updating to 7.5 within the next 6 weeks or so, should have a significant number of feature updates and changes to improve upon it's current interface. I have the HTC HD7 windows phone and I'm looking forward to getting the update.

That is good news since she decided to keep it even though I offered to get her the Atrix...she's quite stubborn about the slide out keyboard.
I'll update to WP7 when they let me sync Outlook contacts/calendar directly with the phone without the need to run an Exchange server, or upload them to Hotmal :/
I do own a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone still, but WP7 seems too constricted with Zune, no direct access to storage on the phone, and no direct sync with Outlook for the time being.

Oh yeah, I had to sign my wife up for a Windows Live email address just for the privilege of getting apps from the marketplace.
WinPhone 7 OS is pure sex! I'd take it over Android and iOS any day of the week to be honest with you. It's extremely polished and makes both iOS and Android look like childs play in comparison and with the new Mango update coming, it will be that much better.

While it may be "pure sex" for ya, not everyone may enjoy that one particular version of it It's not customizeable, MS seems to be trying to heard people into Zune and Windows live, disregarging functionality and locking the user out of customizing the look/feel of it. Even Skype can't be installed in the current version since developers are locked out (may change with Mango eventually, who knows).

you still have 65. OMG that was a horrible OS, Hope your running a cooked rom. Only thing i found that made 6.5 usable was cooked roms and spb mobile shell. What phone?

Well, I was talking more about the UI and the overall user experience of the phone. The MetroUI is the most polished and sleek UI i've ever used on a phone.
