DSL Speed at Nearly Half

Post by PageUp »

Title says it all. I've tried power cycling and tweaking but my speeds refuse to budge. Normally I got around 1.5 mbps.

First thing to do is to log into your router/modem to check the line speed it is connecting with.

You need to log into your modem. Once logged into the modem look around for your connection speed. If you see line attenuation, margin, or something similar you are in the right place. Post the results for the connection speed or sync speed. If you can't find it please let us know what modem you are using.

I can't find anything of the sort in my router's menus. I'm using a D-Link DI-524. It's a pretty old router.

This router has only WEP and simple WPA security encryption, and easy to hack into.

Turn off wireless function and connect your comp directly by ethernet cable to the router and see if you get full speed.

I turned off the wireless on my router and did another speed test.

It didn't seem to help. :(

Could be that the router has done its time and needs replacing.

Do a tracert to http://www.yahoo.com and post.

Do not see any problem with signal quality. I think you need to get a new router.

I have good experience with the TP-Link wireless N router. But it will also require your comp to use a N-series wireless adapter card.
