Strange XP problem

Post by CableDude »

Have a machine that goes to "this computer is locked" after so many minutes. I checked to see if it was an issue with the screen saver and can't find anything.

I have checked both accounts on the PC (maybe there is a third I am unaware of) and didn't find anything.

Look in the power options also, under advanced > Prompt for a password when computer resumes from standby.
I don't know the same things you don't know.

You may want to run a virus scan.

 Not sure where else to look. I'm on my Windows 7 PC at the moment. I'll probably be on my XP box later on today though and I'll have another look see. Fire up msconfig and see whats loading on start up. You can easily disable stuff from there for a test.

Nothing in MSCONFIG out of the ordinary. I turned off the POS a/v program.

It did it again this afternoon. :wth:

And POS does not mean Point of Sale in my world. :D

It has the standard meaning in my world too.
Is it the same window you get if you lock your PC manually? You can log back in OK right? I know thats not the point, but I'm just trying to nail down if its windows doing it or something else. Group policy editor setting, as in a not so funny prank by somebody?

Yes standard window. I did some disabling of "ctrl-alt-del" and "lock" in Group Policy awhile back and still no go. The PC is protected with deep freeze, so the chances of it being a prank are probably very slim.

No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

Yeah. The one with the registry was set to 0 so I set it to 0 again and restarted. Don't know if what I did fixed it or not and I am sure no one will have the courtesy to tell me.
