I'm considering buying a new router to replace my aged Netgear RT314, and am thinking about buying a Netgear WNDR-3400. My main computer and the other 3 in the house are wired, and I have a desktop in my workshop that connects wireless through a Cisco/Linksys WRT400N wirelss router. I thought if I bought the WNDR-3400, I could dump the linksys for my wireless.
Any thoughts or comments on the 3400? Would I see any improvements? My ISP is Mediacom with a 10 Mbps signal, but I rarely get over 7 wireless and 6 wired.
Thanks in advance!

Wow you're still on a 314? Those were some pretty solid routers back in the day....when Netgear was still under BayNetworks. What I would consider a first generation broadband router.
Yeah you'll see an improvement with a new router, I think those 314's peaked at about 8 megs throughput..so if your broadband connection is faster than that...the 314 has been a bottleneck.
The 3400 is pretty good, as is its big brother, the 3700.

Yup, the RT314 has been running strong for quite a few years! I figured I'd get a few chuckles out of that but the darn thing is bullet proof and runs without a hick-up!
I looked at the 3700 but for double the money, I can't justify the added features. Since the 314 isn't wireless and I have to run the WRT400 when I do have my laptop or workshop PC on, the 3400 would allow me to have wireless 100% of the time. What's the 3700 going to do for me that the 3400 can't?
The 314 would replace the ancient Netgear switch down in the kids computer room.

Any idea on how the Netgear 3400 compares to a Linksys WRT400N?
