New Rig... Speccy

Post by PsykoPenguin »

Camera has dead batteries, must go out and buy more tomorrow... so in the meantime this is what I got so far... I just got done updating and putting everything together and the likes.. right now there's no optical drive because I use the IDE for my 2 slave 40 gig drives which contain most of my stuff.

Oh right, haven't really told anyone the story... Birthday, money as gifts, sold old rig and old hardware for more cash, bought new rig through newegg, well part by part anyway, just got the last 4 pieces today and just barely finished putting it all together and putting in windows 7. Using old 550 watter I had previously so I was able to save some money, along with my graphics card..

besides I don't even use the optical drive for much of anything...

Anyway, went out and bought a new case today..

Rosewill Destroyer

That was all I could afford same-day on a 70 dollar budget

The rest of the specs in case you weren't paying attention to my Bday thread:
So anyway here's the speccy stuff. Feel free to click on the picture if the text is too small, it leads to a slightly larger version im sure..

with that being said I haven't had time to really play any games or anything since it's just barely ready.. time to make it lose its virginity.. just dont know what game to play first..

Will OC later.. pr0n first. :p

Guess i'll try this lousy MMO i used to play.. it's free.. and i never got good frames on it on my old rig..

Edit: Ran smoothly. Absolutely smoothly. Guess I'll try WoW whenever I decide to renew my sub.

Yeah, I just shoved it all in there, I was hooking up crap often. I have to get a 4 pin extender from work tomorrow..
[sarcasm]so of course I wont be doing anything with the cables inside, they're all in perfect position[/sarcasm] :p
I noticed all the speccy stuff was all whacky and haven't really had the time to really focus on getting everything in order.
Even the timing on the ram is off, it's supposed to be 7-7-7-21
much tinkering to do. I mostly just focused on making sure everything worked right out of the box to see if I had to RMA anything.
Luckily, no.
Uhh what else is off... Well I was thinking of OC'ing the cores to about 3.2 - 3.5 ghz from the 2.8ghz but I'll deal with that later.. it's not an absolute must for the moment.
Also need to snatch up the molex rubber caps... there's 2 fans that use the connector so.. that leaves me with quite a bit of dangling wires..

I have moved both sticks back onto the same channel. I originally was moving them around to make sure there weren't any bad sticks/slots. I have gotten the RAM to 7-7-7-21 and onto dual channel.
Now to do the processor..

O.C.'d the ram to 1600 but the timing is way off now, have to re-do that..

having troubles OC'ing the processor though.. seems like all my O.C.'s fail on it..

Thanks.

Well, that would be the entire family really.
Years back we all wanted to paint our rooms, we all chose a color for our own room, I happened to pick this neon green looking thing as neon green being my favorite color.
My brother chose a blue of some sort..
The other room which was vacant at the time got painted this forest green or at least i think that's what it was called.

anyhow... currently in the process of fixing up my system... well the CPU was OC'ing at first and I figured out a sweet spot but it seems like the windows setup wont even go through unless i hit that sweet spot. the 3.86ghz OC i had worked with the Windows 7 already installed but it somehow went corrupt.. *shrug* so now im trying to fix it using the windows 7 disc but i figure it to be a good testing ground too. I gotta find something that's stable even during setup.

It works perfectly fine at stock settings. Also, i reverted back to 10666 since the 800 Mhz was 11-11-11-29 and that was just blah.

Magic number... 3.65Ghz and anything beyond that.. well i dont have control over my RAM with this board sadly.. but yeah.. seems like going beyond this creates instability..

Edit: Nevermind, magic number seems to be 3.64 ghz cause that's the highest that'll boot into windows and go through with the windows index test thingamajiggy

Edit 2: Seems like it crashed often while playing biosuck 2 lowered down to 3.61 ghz and so far no problems..

Edit 3: nope, 3.61 isn't the magic number either... perhaps 3.59?

Hope that 40GB PATA isn't your boot drive.

[sarcasm]Yep, sure is.[/sarcasm] :p

those 40 gigers were my slave hard drives that contained all my pr0n and was an absolute necessity to have em connected during the time of the screen shots.. :p
Meh, just had a few programs i had to load up from the slave hard drives onto the main hard drive which was the terabyte you see in there..

Edit: down to 3.58 ghz..

Edit 2: I noticed that all my BSOD are RAM related. It must not really like being overclocked so I lowered it down to 3.50 ghz which put the ram at 1332 at 666 mhz
