A good paper shredder?
A good paper shredder?
I bought a "Fellows" brand at Best Buy a couple of years ago and it's starting to take a dump. Actually I haven't been that impressed with it. It started slowing down over a year ago which I thought was a little too soon for something that is basically just an electric motor.
I'm looking at NewEgg and would like to keep it under $100. Nothing major. I probably shred about 20-30 sheets a week.

I have been through 3 "home use" shredders, pretty much all junk but some will get the job done. My latest is an Office max that does CDs 1 at a time and it's O.K. My kid works there so I get a discount.
I used to destroy top secret aviation communication material in the Corps and our shredder could damn near do a phone book so I am spoiled!

For under 100 dollars..you're going to be disappointed with whatever brand you get. If you burned out a sub 100 dollar Fellowes, you'll burn out a sub hundred dollar anything. GOOD shredders are expensive, esp if you want crosscut/confetti, and jam-proof. If you want to crosscut shred 8-10 sheets at a time, and other media like disks, you're going to have to spend 'tween 200-300 bucks for a decent one. If you want to shred bulk..like 20 sheets at a time, prepare to spend upwards of 800 - 1000 bucks. Fellowes actually does make good ones.

If you're gonna over use it ya, my mother did that with the last one, 6 months worth of mail all shredded at once, overheated the thing fast. But in regular casual use it should be fine.YeOldeStonecat wrote:Bet ya I could cook it inside of 2 weeks.
I spend a lot of time feeding shredders here 'n there at various clients, office, and home.

He already cooked one in short term, chances are he uses it more than the average person...noticing he uses it for a good handful on a weekly basis. I'd rather spend 300 bucks over a 10 year period instead of 80 bucks 2 years ago, another 160 bucks now, and another 200 bucks in 2 years. Raise the bar a bit.YARDofSTUF wrote:If you're gonna over use it ya, my mother did that with the last one, 6 months worth of mail all shredded at once, overheated the thing fast. 20-30 sheets a week isn't bad. Shouldn't put it beyond its runtime even if he gets an 8 or 10 sheet 1.YeOldeStonecat wrote:He already cooked one in short term, chances are he uses it more than the average person...noticing he uses it for a good handful on a weekly basis.
