High Ping

Post by sebr »

I'm encountering high ping while gaming and on the internet in general that isn't normal for me at all. With my somewhat basic computer knowledge, I've tried resolving the situation by running anti-virus scans, Spyware scans, clearing out internet caches, etc. I am wirelessly connected to a router which is connected to Comcast internet. I noticed that another computer in my house which is wirelessly connected to the same router is having the same high ping problem.

I don't know what a tracert is or anything, but I did one to http://www.comcast.net and this is what came up:

Tracing route to a1526.g.akamai.net [96.6.46.9]

8 79 ms 119 ms 142 ms a96-6-46-9.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com [96.6.4

Trace complete.

I would be grateful if someone could help me out here, I will give any information that may be lacking upon my current situation. Does this seem like an ISP problem? Thanks.

If you have a Ethernet cord (CAT 5/CAT 5e) cable, then I'd connect it the computer to the router and see if that resolves the problem. If it persists, then connect your computer directly to the modem and if you still get high ping, it might be an ISP issue and I'd contact whoever it is you have as an ISP.

Looks like you have an interference issue.

Move the modem away from any speakers, phone, or other device and see if that helps.

I've tried moving the modem around, but that doesn't fix the problem. I don't think it's interference, I've had the same setup for a while now with no problems until this last week.

I don't think I have an ethernet cord to test that, but I guess it is the ISP's problem. Ugh...
