End of Support for WinXP SP2 & VISTA
Support is ending for some versions of Windows
* Support for Windows Vista without any service packs will end on April 13, 2010.
* Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13, 2010.
If you're running one of these versions after support ends, you won't get security updates for Windows.

Windows XP SP3 will be supported until 2014SlikLizrd wrote:Anybody know when they're gonna stop supporting WIN XP SP3 !!???
I've had enough of Microsoft's jackaround ways, and will be looking toward Ubuntu when support for XP3 runs out.

but hopeless
" Support ends 24 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first. For more information, please see the service pack policy at http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/ ... ackSupport "

XP will have extended support up to April 2014..as it currently stands.
Just because support for older service packs ends, does not mean support for the OS stops. And even after April 2014 arrives, just because extended support will end then, it does not mean the OS will stop functioning.
End of support for XP service pack 1 has already passed....it ended back in October of 2006...how has that really affected people?
What does support mean anyways?
For Retail versions of Windows, free and paid support via phone or web..depending, along with bug fixes, and security packages via Windows Update. Hotfixes...this varies. For OEM versions of Windows, you get the bug fixes and security updates, but support (phone or web based) is to be had through your computer manufacturer anyways, not to Microsoft.
How many people call Microsoft to work on issues with the OS? Hmmm...I see a pretty small amount of hands being raised, so I don't think this is a big loss...to no longer be able to call Microsoft for an operating system 3 versions old.
History has shown us, towards the end of extended support for an OS, Microsoft will release a "Security Rollup Package" instead of another big service pack. Lets not forget, service packs often add features and major changes to the OS, new driver libraries are developed, along with the plethora of accumulated updates since the prior SP. And for an OS 3 versions old now, we shouldn't expect them to continue to develop it further.

And no, Im not one of those who would expect an OS to be "supported" indefinitely -- nor would I attempt to hold back the hands of time.
At 71 years old, I just need some info to help me plan what's left of my "computerized" life.
Thanks !!

That was what I was looking for..couldn't remember what it was called but yeah a "Security Rollup Package". I would imagin they would do the same with XP as they have done in the past.
