Installed the Intel G2 SSD...

Post by Brk »

The best upgrade I've ever purchased. Takes about 15 seconds from power on to a usable Windows 7 desktop, everything opens instantly. Photoshop CS4 opens in one second. Getting over 25 more minutes of battery life since I installed it as well. Once Intel gets its fixed TRIM firmware out, it may get even better.

If you have the money, get one of these drives for an OS/apps drive.

I've been agonizing over a SSD purchase for a long time. It's good to hear things are that good. I'm not sure if I'll try SSD yet but I appreciate the info.

might do one in the future...they are not where I'd like them just yet.

My first gen Raptor boots Win7 in about 9 seconds now and even on another comp with a regular 500gig SataII drive it loads Win7 up in less than 20.

Been using them for new laptops for nurses for a healthcare client of mine...so dang fast.

Over time I'm hoping they'll maintain performance compared to platters....as the laptop lives through bumps 'n lumps of typical use.

I just install one of these drives. Definitely a significant improvement in speed. Unfortunately, 74GB is no longer adequate for a boot/app partition. Depending on your needs, plan on using another drive for photos, video, documents and possibly games.

Said complaint aside, it might the most significant ugrade one can make at this time. Any process requiring boot drive access would be shortened.

Without a doubt SSD is the future. I'm just holding back for a little longer. Today's technology and my new build is doing everything I want so I'm just going to wait until the drives get bigger and the price comes down.

It is good to know they are working well for you.

Motherboards with SATA 600 and USB 3.0 are coming to market, so waiting a couple of months wouldn't hurt. Certainly SATA 600 ssd's might push the boundries further.

Using 2x Intel X25-M 80GB 34NM Postville in raid0.Super fast, I was aiming for the 120gb versions but it's too expansive.

When they are in sata3 they are much faster (in spite of the facts they are not sata3).

When I was using Vortex and did defrag I noticed very very slight speed decrease.

74 gigs should be plenty for a boot/app drive. Leaves limited room for games, but a gamer should have a game drive as well.
