Finjan Software's SurfinGuard input please.

As this is a free anti-trojan program, am I asking for trouble - is it spyware? is it reliable? Any input would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with this one but it isn't showing up as spyware! You can check on spyware yourself at- http://www.infoforce.qc.ca/spyware/enknownlistfrm.html
If you don't have adaware I would recommend you get a copy of it too. www.lavasoft.de
