C drive

why is my Local Disk C: space getting lesser everyday ?
i did not download any files nor photos but the space free (computer-Local Disk (C

has been lessen by about 5GB everyday.
Please advice.

First hunch is system restore files.
What OS?
What size hard drive?
Is your PC clean from malware?
Do you run any p2p/torrent like software?
Is your PC behind a good firewall?

am using Vista.
HD 150 GB

i also didnt restore anything.

i did install an external drive to transfer photos from my C: drive so as to increase the disc space in C.
but C still decrease day by day. Puzzled.

All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

then

rt click My Computer icon on Desktop > select Properties > System Restore tab > turn off System Restore > close the windows. Repeat and turn System Restore back on.

System Restore if enabled will periodically create restore points in the background, even if you never run the System Restore applet. Each restore point will take up more space. If you turn system restore off it will erase all the restore points. When you turn it back on it will create a new one and the cycle starts over.

try to check the disk, maybe there are bad sectors. And you could do defragmentation and then see if the space also decrease.

when i click to turn off system restore, a prompt says by turning off system restore i will loose all files etc...do they come back when i repeat ur steps?

Very old thread dude! When you turn system restore off all your current restore points are erased. Turning it back on doesn't bring them back, it just creats a new restore point for the current date and time. Then after that windows will creat new ones from time to time and the cycle starts over again.

Also, when you do the All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup make sure that the Compress files selection box is "not" checked if your using 2000 or windows xp.
