Anyone else on a job search?

Post by mountainman »

I've spent the last five days searching for jobs in the Columbus area. I'm 110% fed up with my currently employment and decided I need something very different (big company vs small business).

Anyone else searching? How are you going about it?

I've been hitting up the web sites of companies there and applying right through their application pages. I did a couple through Monster.com today. I'm also hitting up some people in the area who work at some of these bigger companies.

Good luck to anyone on the hunt! Something couldn't come soon enough...

been on one for 2 months now... found one I'm trying out. Problem is they have a expensive training amount that I have to pay back once completed if I leave within 1 year so I'm hoping to get a idea if I like it or not in the next 2 weeks plus hoping I hear something from a few other places I've applied for.

Job market is for sure low... this stimulus certainly isn't helping that I can see.

Yep, Job market has sucked for the past 5 years and I don't see it getting any better for a few more years. Hopefully, it will be better by 2012. Good luck.

I would go to Florida if my job was good. It sucks and has for awhile.

I need to go somewhere where I can get something good job-wise and go back to school part-time for the MBA to open some more doors and build on my current business experience.

The misses and I both dig Columbus a lot and my brother lives there as well. We think it's a good fit.

My fiance' has been looking for the past year and is getting nowhere. Right now I think the only way you're going to find something substantial is through friends and contacts. Personally I would stay away from the majority of web based searches and just start knocking on doors.

But as said above... I think it's going to be at least 2 years before we start to see a positive change in the economy.

Good Luck.

I have been unemployed since 10/08. Laidoff after 20 years. Oh well.

It's tough out there. I apply for at least 4 jobs a week and so far nothing. I am down to the $10.00 an hour jobs. (was making 35.00)

Yesterday, I did get a telephone interview with Enterprise car rental, it went well. I am suppose to go in next week for a face to face.

To answer your question, I use:

Monster
Careerbuilder
The job search website provided by the Unemployment office
Go direct to a company's website
Network, Network and Network

Ya, I've done 20 apps in the past week and then hitting up friends and family on top of that. I'm assuming the most success is through a network as with anything else. It's all about who you know.

Also, I'm finding out that the best time to look for something better is when you still have a job...

Heck, looking at sites, there are a TON of jobs out there. You just have to be very qualified because most require some pretty lengthy experience and/or specific qualifications.

Keep plugging away!

Sad but true. Which is why I can't get a bloody job ffs :irate: I mean really, I haven't been able to get a single damn call from anyone except from that stupid Vector crap but everyone gets hired in Vector Marketing. Just come up with any half assed answer and you get hired anyway. The only issue is that they sell really expensive (but good) knives that no one ever wants to buy and pay is like comission based so yeah, dont sell, no monies.

maybe you should try snagajob.com or even craigslist, possibly the local newspaper too or something. That's what I be doin but so far I've yet to find a single job that doesn't require it to be full time or doesn't require xp. I just want monies so I can go to trade school.

What makes things worse is that I'm 20 without a drivers license. :(

Ah well, eventually I'll find a job... I hope...

Hard to say exactly what I'm looking for because I don't want the same job I'm doing now (account manager). I would like something in the business analyst realm, product management/specialist or marketing. I'm just finding stuff that's close and going from there.

I want to get in with a big company so I have room to advance throughout the next 25 years.

The search continues...
