next gen iPhone...

Post by mountainman »

It looks like the next gen of the iPhone is coming out soon. My VZW contract is up in mid-June so I'll be waiting for it to make the jump.

A friend of mine is testing the 3.0 software and so far it kicks ass. I wont up grade mine to this one but some of the features will be nice.

I'm probably going to switch over in July to At&T (currently with VZW) but what would be sweet beyond sweet is that if they offered a ruggedized version of the iphone.

That's the one thing that's holding me back from ditching my current BB Pearl....I'm close to giving the Storm a try...but dunno how "rugged" they are with those large screens. Same would apply if I were to consider an iPhone. That big glossy screen...how long will it last?

I have had my 3g for a few months now and with the replaceable screen protectors the screen stays perfect, and cases like this are very tough http://www.otterbox.com/iphone-cases/ip ... nder-case/
I love this phone :)

I have been using an Ipod touch 32GB for a while now. When snapped into a Tumi protective case, it seems fairly secure. A film screen protector would be a fine adjunct as well.

The guy at work has the Tumi and it's in great shape. The one day he took it out and used it, he dropped it and broke the screen.

Lucky for him, he bought the coverage through Apple and they sent him a replacement ASAP.

I still like a tactile keyboard, that is the ONE feature keeping me from going with the iPhone.

It's the G1...google phone. That has a keyboard and touch screen. The G2 will probably be the generation that gets Android into the mainstream.

OK, those of you up to snuff on the timing of electronics from Apple...

Let's say Apple introduces the next gen iPhone next week as is expected. How long until you'll find them at your friendly AT&T store or Apple store to get signed up?

not sure how long, but doesn't that happen with most techy stuff? cameras, computers, car audio, cell phones ?

remember that commercial ? where that guy bought the latest PC and on the way home he see's a billboard with something bigger/faster/better !?!?!? LOL

I have a iPhone 3g,and I have faith in Apple for keeping up to date on software for it.

IMO the next iPhone will be the same hardware with just a newer software,my phone does a good job of keeping all the "apps" up to date,

when 3.0 is out my phone will be up to date

New phone supposedly has a 3.2MP cam with auto-focus, 32GB HDD (great for music/vid) and some other hardware upgrades.

True they are pretty similar, but if I'm going to buy a new one, I don't want to be the guy in the commercial!!

(I almost went and got an iPhone yesterday but decided to look at some news to see if one was on the way. Heh.)

Yeah, best to wait. the Palm Pre is almost here as well and it can currently sync with itunes.

Lots of movement in the cell space.

I'm happy with my blackberry bold, i wish the screen was a little bit bigger, that's the only complaint... it supports up to 32GB of storage, so it matches the new iphone there....

a problem with the Palm phones is they are not compatible with some of the newest car audio bluetooth units, like Pioneer for one,and that goes for the Palm OS or the windows OS

Windows Mobile is plug and play. Input the URL, username and password and it goes to town. I used it for a couple years.

If the OS wasn't so buggy, I'd still be using it. The iPhone has the same type of support.

Unfortunately we don't have a true IT dept at our small company and no one knows how to install the BES stuff. I'm certainly not touching the backbone to our office comms.

Oh yeah, the OWA access. "Plug 'n play" to me would be turn on the phone, and it automatically connects without input.

I'm from the Blackberry world with BES or Blackberry Professional Express...programs the admin installs on the Exchange Server to give good functionality to the phones. I've not dealt with the Microsoft alternative, ActiveSynch..but there's a bit of that to install/enable/configure on the Exchange Server. Although from what I've read it's less involved than the BES counterpart..which can take approx a half hour or more.

Input on either end is not plug 'n play to me.

After messing with the BB stuff, inserting a URL and a u/p is as close as you can get to plug-and-play to get actual email sync with the rest of my PC's.

Heck, if the powers-that-be at the office would pay someone who knows what they're doing to install BES, I'd probably go out and buy a Storm right now!

Oh well.

Shoot, I told them I know a guy we could hire and get it set up correctly for a fee. Too cheap.

As for the Exchange issue a couple weeks ago, my connection was down for 16 days before it was fixed.

Pre-WWDC rumor: iPhone versions coming to T-Mobile. (Click the picture at the link for something allegedly from T-Mobile's customer system)

Bummer. T-Mobile is non-existent in my neck of the woods.

My guess is VZW won't be partnering up anytime soon with Apple.

I hate reading these pre-WWDC articles stating again and again that the price points for the iPhone will likely be $199 and $299, respectively. That's the price for a new AT&T contract, man.

Most of the people buying the new iPhone will be existing owners, so the price will actually be around $499 and $599.

Just tell us the higher price, and then add on the lower prices with a big asterisk.

iPhone 3GS

A 3 megapixel camera, that now can do video? No flash?

Voice dialing, too...but only available on the new iPhone hardware. Uhhh, whuh?

Digital compass, might be useful.

7.2 Mbps HSDPA, that's good.

Every digital compass I've ever used has driven me batty. If it's tied into the GPS capabilities of the phone, it'll require movement to get a decent bearing.
