Make sure you have System BIOS Cachable, Video RAM cachable, and Video Bios Shadow all enebled in your CMOS BIOS settings.
Also make sure HDD mode is set to Block and the HDD properties in the IDE Detect section or the Standard CMOS setup section of the BIOS is set to LBA.
Go to the VIA website and download the latest VIA drivers.
Load and run a program like Ram Idle (free at ZDNet.com) for your RAM problem.
Make sure you are running the latest drivers for all of your hardware.
Set your HDD and CDROM settings to DMA if they are capable of such. (windows device manager...select properties of each unit...then settings).

Click the win.ini tab at the top right of the screen and click the plus sign next to "windows". Remove the check marks from anything that has "run=" or "load=". Click the startup tab on the top right and then put the these check marks back in. scanregistry, systemtray, loadpowerprofile(there are two of these, check them both), your antivirus software. For windows ME add these as well, *statemgr and pchealth. Click apply then OK, Restart when prompted.
