A discussion about racism

Post by RoundEye »

What brings this up is some recent jokes posted here and I’m watching a show on TV about Medgar Evers. If you have any comments about racism present them in an adult fashion and keep them civil or I will ask a mod to delete them.

Yeah, I’ll laugh at racist jokes. I’m aware that they are largely based on untrue stereotypes. Why a person would want to harm or kill a person based entirely on their skin color is beyond me. I use to work with a Black guy at Harley that washed bikes part-time. He also was a part-time DJ at a popular radio station and attended college for communications. That’s respectable no matter what skin color. Sadly, it seemed that I was the only person that really talked with the guy and we hit it off big time. I’ve been back twice to Harley since I left, to try and keep up with him but I’ve been unable to catch up with him.

I also think that Affirmative Action is a type of reverse discrimination. It may have been needed at one time but I really hope that it’s no longer needed. We need to put a person in the job that has the best qualifications, period.

I don’t know, causing harm or death to a person based on skin color is something that I am unable to wrap my head around. I really hope that I’m not the only person in the world that feels this way.

Or super lurker. :p

I know it’s a difficult topic to speak about but the thread shouldn’t descend into chaos if everybody keeps their wits about them.

#1 We have come a long way with racism, but it still exists today. Our children learn from their parents, who learn from their parents, who learn from....it goes on and on.

#2 It is ignorant and hateful thinking. But....I believe in KARMA.

#3 I have friends from all walks of life. I have a lot of respect for them. They don't let the ignorant racist comments of others bother them because they know it comes out of ignorance. They have claimed their personal power and live wonderful lives. :thumb:

#4 I decided to do some research about the Klan. I never realized that they were still in existence. About 6000 nationwide....Just the thought turns my stomach.

Being from the South, I deal with some racist idiots who are dead set in their ways. My neighbors little brother was shooting his gun in the air one night and when I confronted him about it he said “Why? there’s nothing but a bunch of niggas over that way anyway”. Then I replied “I don’t care what color they are, their human”. It didn’t set in until later on that night that I probably came pretty close to that idiot shooting me, he wasn’t too happy about me going over there and chewing him a new ass.

I feel like I’m the only person that feels this way sometimes.

I know, but his ignorance was learned from the family. It is unfortunate.

Don't know, and don't really care. Hate groups have probably existed for thousands of years.

It doesn’t matter, you take any group of people and form a group and you’ll have some idiots. Take a particular group of priest for example. There are some child molesters. Or groups that blow up abortion clincs, that kill in the name of God.

I’m not fond of groups that swing too far one way or another.

Why is it every time a discussion comes up it the first thing you hear is the "KKK"?? There are many hate groups that target Whites and at no point is any one group no matter the size or amount anymore hate drivin than the other.

I am aware of black extremist existence. I just ASKED YOU A QUESTION on how far back are you aware of their existence. I asked if you knew of the history of these groups. That is all.

IN MY OPINION...I thought your answer sucked. :p

Loosen up your pants Frank. I was talking about it with a friend of mine here and I just decided to do some reading on them. I am aware that there are other hate groups too.

I doubt any of these groups you are talking about have anywhere near the kill count of the KKK. Which is, last I checked, over 2 million.

I would think that they haven’t existed as long as long as the KKK because at one time it was against the law for a black man to form a group anyway.

This is much more than a black and white issue anyway.

lots of bigotry in the world. always has been, always will be. it's a byproduct of a) realizing differences between each other and b) the need to be "better" than the next guy. just need to acknowledge it, learn to cope and move forward. not everyone can do that.

i like a good off-color joke, i admit. but i also dont get all ass-hurt when i hear a joke that involves me in some way... as long as its done in good humor (which can be hard to detect with the net as a venue).

Maybe it is high I don't know. That's what I recalled reading awhile ago. But you got fingers and you got internet so use them. Check the data yourself.

Then why even state it as fact?

I think I’ll ask the mods to lock this thread up. I should have known better in the first place. It seems that it is a subject that people can’t have a civil, intelligent conservation about without getting all emotional about it.

This is what I found out.
I'll divide the answer into several sections

Reconstruction 1st Klan (1865-1877)

1500 estimated by the Tuskegee Institute

1200 blacks 300 whites

100-200 killed in South Carolina

150 Florida

The rest mostly killed during black voting in Louisiana in the 1868 US Presidential Election

The Klan was also partially involved in the Colfax Massacre

Nadir 2nd Klan ( 1915 - 1944)

416

Klan was frequently involved in lynchings, killed mostly blacks in this era

Murdered Blacks returning from WW1

Killed Leo Frank (Jewish White)

Killed 6 blacks attempting to vote in Orange County Florida

Civil Rights 3rd Klan (1954-1968)

15 people (13 black)

These murders are well known and include, but are not limited to

1963 murder Medgar Evers

1963 16th street baptist church bombing

1964 Mississippi Burning

1965 Viola Luizo Shooting

1966 Vernon Dahmer Killing

Many of these murders were prosecuted ... in the 90s and 2000s

David Duke 4th Klan

1979 Greensboro Massacre 5 killed

5th Klan

1981 Lynching Michael Donald

Klan member electrocuted

Total 1937

Note these are only those killed hundreds of thousands of people were injured or intimidated by the Klan

+ Although the Klan hadn't been formed Nathan Bedford Forrest, leader of the first Klan committed this atrocity

Fort Pillow Massacre 1864 277 blacks
It appears what I read before added the Fort Pillow Massacre kills with the clan kills. If this info here is correct.
