"The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later."

I’d rarely gotten that message in the past, and now I’m getting it for some extended times. What’s up, Philip tweaking the server for better performance or something?

Damn, I almost had to go outside in the sun!

It was my doing this morning, I rebooted the server.

Seems I'll have to install some limit to the number of connections per IP, the server was getting hammered by a couple of IPs.

It looked more like a DoS, it was over an extended period from the same Chinese IPs with over 20 connections per IP.

Would you be interested in some 16mm black and white in a dark setting?

I finally got the server load down to where it should be last night.

It took tweaking a number of TCP settings, blocking misbehaving spiders and scripts hitting tens of thousands of pages, limiting number of connections per IP, etc.

Does anyone get an error message "Page Temporarily Unavailable" when flipping through pages fast ? (it's a side effect of limiting number of concurrent connections per IP, could be more relevant when browsing behind proxies)

I did this evening here Philip but it was ok after F5.

When I came to check out the place the other night I got the "Server unavailable" message and was about to end it all.... :irate:  :rtfm:
But I guess it happens every so often?
PLEASE don't allow this again ok? or there will be trouble, wet fish at 20 paces :thumb:
