Which Editing Suite?

Post by Pettos »

Ok,

So initial statement... Please no suggestions of Windows Movie Maker, or iMovie, or I will shoot you.

As some of you know, this year I have taken a year and a half off to get my Diploma in Screen and Media... Now being a student, I have little money, and my teachers have said that if I want to do my diploma, I really need my own laptop to be working on, as there isn't enough time during tafe hours.

So, being a student, I have run to my folks, and my dad is strongly against macs, which means I have to present him a good reason for him to buy me a mac (So I can use Final Cut Pro).

I used Final Cut for 3 years during school. At that time, I shat on anything else that was in the market. I used liquid - shat, premiere - shat, Vegas - Haven't used it...

So since then, I have used Final Cut briefly and still am in love with it...

Liquid 7 - I used for 2 years at racenet, and is an absolute joke of an editing program...

Premiere - When I used it a couple of years a go, I tried to edit together a family friends sons 21st b'day (for free, of course), and got an absolute ***** result, because premiere decided to just bugger up the export, no matter what I did... So I barred that.

Sony Vegas - Haven't used it... Heard its fun... But the fact of learning yet another suite doesn't exactly appeal to me...

So my problem is, is that I have to come to dad with facts, so I can do my own research, but anything that you peeps can provide will be helpful, eg - examples with programs, reviews, personal preferences...

Anyway, cheers for reading.

Pete

Ultimately it should be what program can do everything you need and what are you good with.

Sony Vegas, Avid liquid, Adobe Premeire are all suppose to be very good.

If what you're good with is Final Cut, then your dad shouldnt care that its a Mac app. Hell Macs run on the same Intel CPUs these days as regualr PCs.

Tell your dad not to let his hate for Macs get in teh way of seeing that you already have experience with the apple software and that you don't need him making your education more difficult.
