my browser speed is too slow!

Post by MCpoolish »

i love surfing the internet then i saw a thing called pipelining in firefox then i tried to use it to see if my browsing speed will be improve. I did the instructions as what is says, but then after that, i got a very slow speed browsing.then i tried to put the things back to normal but then,it is still slow.i try to test my speed in speedtest.net and my connection is ok.i got a globe wireless plan 995 w/ 512kbps speed, and normally i got a 512-540 kbps, but my browsing speed is still really very odd. I'm always getting a "network timeout" or other connection failed.can anyone help me about this thing. Its like a dial-up connection or even slower :Frown: somebody plss help how to fix this thing. Im glad to hear ur ideas about this.

Run TCP Analyzer, a speed test, and tracert to http://www.yahoo.com. Post results here.
Also what operating system you are using. This should give a starting point.

Using Starhub? What speed package are you paying for?

Post your TCP Analyzer report.

Also, power off your router and modem and relocate both of then so that they are a few feet away from ALL other electrical devices, including away from each other.

trogers or rollingstone could probably explain this better, but you seem to be confusing bites and Bytes from different types of tests.

Speedtests are measured in kbps - kilobites per second

Information transfer rates are measured in KBps - KiloBytes per second.

544 kbps = 68 KBps

Not if your monitor is the old CRT type. It gives out too much interference.

Place the modem on the floor below the comp table.

If the unit is a comp tower, avoid placing the modem on top of it as the power supply unit (mounted at the inside top) also emits interference. That's why I find the floor next to the comp tower a good place, unless your floor is frequently wet.

Ahh...if it is wireless, it should be placed in an elevated position, on a bookshelf or on top of a low cupboard.

Is there any other device in the room operating at the same wireless frequency of 2.4 GHz? Eg. Digitable cordless phone.

Hey MCpoolish, I have been having the same problems lately, I am also using Globe Wireless Broadband for around 2 months now.

I have been having some slowdown lately, but thanks to open dns, i was able to surf the net more comfortably than using Globelines dns server. It seems that they haven't cleared up the cache on their own servers that is why even the lined plans are also having some problems browsing.

try using OpenDns, or if you want you can use the same globe wireless broadband servers, all you need to have is the list of dns blocks that globe uses.

I have blogged about it on my site on my site try to look at a couple of globe dns servers if you dont want to use open dns servers it here in my blogsite http://www.ljdiaz.com/2008/08/21/globe- ... -browsing/, and by the way, have you asked on the pinoydsl forums? since most of pinoy broadband internet users are there.

Follow this in your XP settings: https://www.opendns.com/smb/start/device/windows-xp

Follow this in your router settings: https://www.opendns.com/smb/start/router/

I have put it on the modem itself, go to zte mf600's address 192.168.0.1 then got to APN configure tab then on the dns section choose manual then enter the open dns values. for complete procedure on what I have done, its here http://www.ljdiaz.com/2008/11/03/globe- ... ing-it-up/

by the way, leave the windows lan settings set to auto-configure, or might as well since you can surf the net and the problem is only selective browsing leave all the settings you have on your lan settings untouched.

all you need to tweak is the settings on the zte mf600 APN Configure tab.

Hope that helps!
