Thinking of OCing my Duron

Post by bastille_iii »

I've heard alot of talk about how easy it is to overclock an 800 duron to a gig. I'm just wondering what kind of cooling i'll need to do this. Right now i have a fan and heatsink on the processor, and i'm planning to have an intake and exhaust here soon. Is there anything else i need?
Running a:

Duron 800 @ 840
DFI AK74-EC Motherboard
Creative onboard sound
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP
CNet 10/100 Netcard
256 pc133 Ram
48x cd rom
2x2x24 cd burner

The best way to o'clock is to unlock it, if you have a motherboard that supports multiplyer adjusting. As for cooling, the CPU's fan/hs is the most important. Are you using a third party fan/hs? I recommend the Thermaltake Chrome Orb or the CoolerMaster CB5-5G12 (copper hs).

I've had my Duron 600 up to 927 (103*9) but opted for the higher fsb (108*8). Regardless the Chrome Orb cools it plenty with only one case fan.

You can only go so far w/ the FSB before stability is an issue. The Via chips rather not be run out of spec.

any decent approved hsf will do...just use good thermal compound and a DECENT hsf and you're ok. the temps don't rise too much unless ur crazy w/ it
