Yamaha 8424E and Mandrake 7.0

Post by cplclegg »

I am soon purchasing a Yamaha 8424E CDRW and I was wondering if the native CD recodring software in the KDE apps in Mandrake 7.0 will be able to record DAO. I really want to go 100% Linux running the KDE GUI but If it's a headache to get this burner to work with Linux I am going dual boot. Is there anything I would need to do during Installation? The version of Mandrake is the "Linux for Windows" version but a regular full install of the OS, not the virtual OS version.

I haven't used that particular CDRW, but from past experiences, setting up a CDRW for DAO operation is a very simple task. X-CD-Roast supports both DAO and TAO methods. Chances are if your drive supports it, you can get it working with Linux. You should check out the manufacturer's site to see if you can find compatibility information there. Maybe they have some tech forums that you can weed through.

If all else fails, run a search in Google. Chances are someone has tried to do what you are doing and have posted their experience for all to read.

Good Luck!
