ok, i have this Ambit cable modem/router combo (gateway?) from Time Warner Road Runner, and its config page's log shows a lot of "map request retry timeout" messages.
And I *think* that is why I am getting slow connections (slow response time when connecting to websites) to frequently dropped connections (like once every 2 to 3 hours). I tried connecting an ethernet cable directly from the modem to my computer, and I see the same slowness/dropped connections.
1) Is it a problem with signal from the co-axial cable? Or is it a problem with the modem itself?
2) I used TCP Optimizer and applied its optimized setting on my NIC (wireless adaptor), and rebooted. It's been 15 mins since I did the optimizer, and now the response time is normal (at least so far). Could that have fixed my problem???? Seems weird how a software can fix a hardware problem?
Any insights/suggestions are appreciated! To give you more info, here's my latest setting from the modem:
