Excellent connection but terrible ping when playing counter strike.
Hi, I am new to the forum. My problem is that i get high pings whne playing counter strike; i.e. 150 or more... most of the time it averages abt 300!!!
I am in Jamaica and im paying for a 8mbps download and 1mbps upload connection. i have done many speedtests from reputed sites that confirm i am getting the correct bandwidth.
I have read other posts and have noticed that they submit tcp reports when they have a similar issue. So i googled and got one:
« SpeedGuide.net TCP Analyzer Results »

IF u need any more information, pls inform me on what u need and how/where i can get it.

I applied the settings u suggested, rebooted, and tried playing strike. I am able to find servers under 200 ping now(an improvement i must say), but still none of them give me a ping lower than 100.
My previous ISP (2 months ago) gave me a 3mbps download connection and 512kbps upload. And the same servers gave me a ping of about 80-120. I expected my 8mbps connection to give me well below 100 ping. Is there anything else i could try?
The current TCP analysis is:

btw, when i open tcp optimizer, i notice that the slider is at 3000kbps :S Would it help if i moved it to 8mbps?
thx for the help so far.

Do a tracert yahoo.com and post.I applied the settings u suggested, rebooted, and tried playing strike. I am able to find servers under 200 ping now(an improvement i must say), but still none of them give me a ping lower than 100.
To do a tracert : Start > Run > Type cmd > Type tracert yahoo.com > When completed > Right click > Select All > Paste into the Quick Reply box in this forum.
When use Custom Settings , no need to move the slider in Connection Speed !btw, when i open tcp optimizer, i notice that the slider is at 3000kbps :S Would it help if i moved it to 8mbps?

Tracert looks good ! But the "Request timed out" occurred in hop 2 !
Try to put your modem/router far away of ALL electrical devices,
Also, make sure you do not coil up any excess length of signal or power cables.

I moved my modem and router to the top of my computer table lol (printer was demoted :P). They seem to be relatively far apart from any "electrical devices"(not including computer peripherals). Umm here is a photo of my current setup:

After i did that and made sure there werent any coils in the power and signal cables i tried the yahoo.com and also a google.com tracert:

Try to disable modem/router built-in Firewall.
Or could be a damaged ethernet cable between the comp and the router that needs replacing.
Another point : your ISP doesn't have Reverse DNS & Reverse DNS Authenticity

I'll try going into my router web interface and turning off the firewall, i have to go now, i'll post the results i get a little later.

I tried all the suggestions you gave me but it was to no avail
. I tried a direct connection from my modem to pc. I bought a new ethernet cable. My modem doesnt have a firewall so that couldnt be the problem.
Out of curiosity, I asked a friend who has a similar connection to mine to do tracerts to yahoo.com and google.com. Surprisingly his 2nd hop also timed out. And so we contacted our ISP(we are both getting service from the same ISP) about our 2nd hops timing out. They said that they blocked it and we need not worry about it as it doesnt have any effect whatsoever on the rest of our connections.
We received the same reply about Reverse DNS & Reverse DNS Authenticity.
I am still stuck with high pings. Any other suggestions?
