syquest "syjet 1.5gb" doesnt recognize the catridge

Post by azev »

I recently bought a syquest drive, a scsi one.
I install it in my computer connecting to a onboard motherboard (tyan 1696dlua) running nt server 4.0 and it works fine, until i tried to transfer a huge file about one gig.

the drive automaticly stoped and spit out the catridge. I tried to put it in again and it kept spitting my drive. Everytime i can get it to stay in and i click on the icon from windows explorer the os keep saying that the drive is not readable and want me to format, but whenever i format it, it spits out the catdrige again.... hmmmmmm
i tried low formating from the scsi bios but again the problem saying that there is something wrong with the catridge. I just recently bought another catridge and it works fine again until i tried to move that 1gig file and then it did the same thing.
Anybody have the same problem with me??
Help!!! spend more than a 100 bone for these things.

I know from personal experience that those drives are crap. My college had those installed in one of our labs and by the end of the semester out of the 25 or so that worked at the start of the semester 2 or 3 of em worked at the end.Needless to say they installed hard drive caddies for the next semesters. Bring it back if you can and never look back. Buy yourself a CD burner. Much cheaper in the short and long run.

BTW, that SyJet drive was so bad that it actually bankrupted Syquest. The company is no more. GET RID OF IT IF YOU CAN! ;-)
