Can't Adjust Date/Time

Post by fanta »

I can't seem to adjust the date and time in win98se. When I right click on the time and hit adjust, I get an error saying "An error occured while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\Windows\System\Timedate.cpl" What could I do to fix this?

Hey fanta, bye the way, cool name. ok now. your in luck my boy. WIN98SE has a great little utility in the accessories/system tools folder. use that good o'le utility to go through your windows files and check for corrupt or missing files for the operating system.

Thanks, I like the name too. I tried looking for a scan utility but I couldn't find one that fixed the problem. What program are you refering to? Also norton utilties wasn't able to fix the problem.

fanta; try extracting the timedate.cpl file from your cabs and replace it with the one found in c:\windows\system. seems like it would be more of a problem with that file rather than the system clock, but i could be wrong.

Loachduke, and Eyeball, thanks a lot for the tips. I adjusted the time through the dos-prompt with no problems :)

Hey fanta,

Curious...can you change the time through BIOS at bootup? Or, can you open a dos prompt window and type the command 'time'. You can change it there too.
If neither work then your BIOS is pooched.
