Laptop not booting up

Post by Samuel4u »

I am looking at a friend's laptop to see if anything can be done to save it.
Laptop is a Compaq Presario V1000.

It had a bit of a tumble from a table and since then not worked (thats his story anyway).

Symptoms

When turning on laptop it will show on bios post.
The power on light comes on.
The Wireless light comes on.
Fan spins and then stops.
CDROM is accessed/spins (continuosly)
HDD is not access at all.
Screen is BLACK.
Keyboard didn't seem to work (capslock light would not turn on when pressed)

I have opened the laptop up and had a dig around.
What I have tried with no success.
Connect to a monitor and boot. No output.
Reseat Memory.
Reseat CPU.
Reseat Video Card.

I cannot see anything obvious on the motherboard, however I am not an expert.

Are these symptoms (ie. no bios) those of a dead motherboard?
Could it just be the CPU?

Any suggestions most welcome

Thanks

try unplugging the hard drive and see if it will boot into the bios...sounds like a bad board though
