Bad lag in BF1942/DC

Post by MetalHead324 »

I'm sure a few of you know, I had to fix a problem with my computer rebooting. It was over clocked a bit, and all I had to do is put it back to the original setting. First, here are my specs.
AMD Athlon 1.8 GHz
1 gig RAM
WinXP Pro SP2
ATI Radeon 9600

So when I was having problems before, my CPU's Frequency 1 MHz Stepping was at 132 (max) so to fix the problem, I put it back down to 100 (min).
After that is when i started lagging badly. I put it up to 108, then 112, and now at 116, and it is still lagging.

We toned down some of the video settings in BF to see if that helped... It did, but very very little. Then we over clocked my video card from Core 400 and Memory 270, to Core 455 and Memory 320. It did very little to stop the lag.

I read that the recommended specs only requires a 800 MHz processor, so I should be fine with that, and with all the same parts, it was fine before, so I have no idea what could be causing the lag.

Any help would be appreciated.

Online play? Ping's when your playing..stable internet connection? Could be the ram going/gone bad...rum memtest to check out the sticks one at a time.

If both him and I are playing at the same time...on a server in Germany, we're both around 65-75 ms as far as pings. It's not bandwidth.

I know his system is a little low in specs by todays standards....but I've been playing BF DC for a long time...prior to that was using an AMD Palo 1900 myself with a 64 meg GeForce2.

Upgrades coming soon to the computers at Cats Pad..this one is just to hold him over until then.

we both like to play on that one because, well for me anyway, it has all the good maps in the map cycle and there are no rules other than no TK and no cheating...

but i am still confused on how the hell could it just crap out so fast...

It's a modded server...only one out there with these cool mods..and a great crowd.

Pings aren't an issue anyways..as illustrated...65-75 for 2x concurrent players, smooth as butter.

Gotta dork some more with his ATI video settings, the 9600 card is a 256 megger....should handle the old DC engine just fine.

Because the 0-]T-M-P[-0 servers are cool, lots of regular players there over the many years I've been playing there.

With the internet..you can't think geographically. With an average ping of 70ms....it doesn't matter where it's located...70ms in game performance is great as far as the network latency goes.

And I don't have the energy to build/run/maintain/manage/collect money/fund/police a game server anymore.

Maybe another gig of ram? Couldn't hurt. Using the latest drivers? Or try re-install them...

I already suggested ram was a issue..

It might not be bad but you could use some more and ram is cheap.

have you tried reinstalling the game patches and mods?

I jumped in that server, helluva alot of action going on in there and i get alot of lag aswel my ping is around 80

must be all the mods?

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

sometimes you have to think outside the box to get inside the box ;).

the server is the same as always, no new mods or anything. before it ran great, but then once i put my front side bus down the the original speed, and thats when it started running slow.
