Cod4

Post by Roody »

Pretty cool game so far. Only a couple levels in, but I am enjoying it so far. It looks great on my pc with the 8800gtx. One question though I got a blue screen of death on my pc running Vista Ultimate when I paused the game. It wasn't immediately, but it happened within 30 seconds. Anyone else have this issue? I patched my game so I know it's not because the game was out of date.

No I have only played SP so far. Now that you mention it I did read an article recently about a possible fix to this issue. Thanks for jogging my memory. :D

I like to get familiar with game controls and play a little bit in SP before I jump into MP games.

I just map them to be the same for every other game I play so I don't have to remember anything new :D

I think some programs don't tend well with COD4, I think it was either Crysis or COD4 that didn't like xfire for some reason...can't remember which.

I do however think its a shame about how much space COD4 took up (over 6gigs) vs how much Crysis took up for a install (over2gigs)

Didn't even give the space thing a look. I did read a review that said to make sure and have 8gb available, but that wasn't an issue in the first place so I didn't look closely at it.

Well I updated my video card drivers this evening, but I still got a crash. It's not a blue screen anymore, but it either locks up or powers down and reboots. First and only game so far that has done this on my pc. :wth:

I have been having some minor software issues for the last couple of months so I decided I am going to back up everything, blow out my PC and put Vista back on clean. Maybe that will fix the issue. Guess we will see. :)

yeah anyone running vista should be reinstalling at least once every few months mostly from all the hotfixes and updates and more important if you've been having crashing issues or anything along those lines that may corrupt something.

Hey Sava. Do you know if it's possible to save the levels I have played already to import them in when I am finished re-imaging my machine? Although I am only about 6 levels in I would prefer not to have to start back at the beginning.

So it's not inside the COD4 directory then? You figure if I make a complete backup of my Document and Settings I will be good then?

My guess is it's an issue with the game. I did the format and reinstall and it crashed again.

I'm happy to know it's not an issue with my particular pc, but I hope they issue a patch to fix this soon.

The game is amazing, but they need to come out with another patch to fix the crash problem.

I think its just hardware related or perhaps from other crashes in the past that may have corrupted something..I have them but others in the clan do not.

I'm going to do a fresh XP install tomorrow prob..

Then there is literally hundreds with the most recent drivers on various video cards all having the same issue with COD4. :wth:

That's to much of a coincidence to be realistic. It's gotta be an issue with COD4 specifically.

Like any situation not everyone is affected, but when you have sites like I linked to earlier in this thread and others where there is literally hundreds of posts with the same issue then there is something to that.

The issue is also solely limited to COD4 on my pc which is a top of the line gaming machine (Or very close). Other new games like UT3 have no problems and neither does older games.

Yep. It's getting annoying also because the game is alot of fun. After the last crash for some reason it didn't retain the 3 levels I went through which didn't please me either. :irate:

Try to reinstall COD4 any? Perhaps its something else conflicting with the game? I mean I know whats causing mine and thats been from crashes in the past, mostly from driver testing but some from other games having flaws that I've run.
