My old Dell celery is running out of steam for my designs on Acad 2000i. My budget is allowing me to get a new system. It should rock for all my drawings and other work related stuff.
Dual PIII-733EB (133FSB)
MSI (?? not sure about mainboard, but has RAIDE or RAIDE card)
256 MB PC-133 SDRAM
3DLabs AGP VX1 32 MB Graphics Card
Dual 20.5GB ATA100 using RAIDE
50X EIDE CDRom
3COM PCI Ethernet
1.44 Floppy Drive
MS Internet Keyboard
Win2000 Pro
ViewSonic GS790 19" Monitor.
All for about $3800 Canadian.
What's your opinion?
Look at this cool system I'm getting...

all right!..... a workstation!
looks like a winner for sure. i'm an AMD guy, but that setup looks real nice. MSI solutions have been consistantly the best mobo's for me. and ATA/100 RAID? yikes, thats gonna turn some nice hdtach scores. if a nice U160 SCSI RAID config weren't so darned expensive....... i am assuming you will not running the second drive as a mirror.
and that video card....... i would love to see how well it runs openGL games/apps. to be honest, i have never seen a 3dlabs card in anything except graphics startions (which weren't running any games), so i would like to see how she games. nice monitor as well. should have really nice color saturation (thats an aperature grille tube, right?). with q3 supporting SMP, you should be in total frag heaven! i would look around for other games that support SMP, so's you can use it for fun as well as work.
is there sound?

Hey,
Update...
The mainboard is a 694D Pro (MS-6321) from MSI, with dual P733EB processors.
The Oxygen VX1 graphics board is just awesome. It supports a nice frame rate while rendered and rotating the parts.
Take a look at the project I'm currently working on. Its a medium sized instrument packed with electronics, a GPS, and lots of other goodies.
The file is about 4Megs for the model, and does a nice 20FPS conistent in rendered 1280x1024x32 revolutions and zooms. Wicked!
