Whats running

Post by tekelberry »

Hello. Here is a list of things that are starting up when I turn on my computer. I do want Norton AV and Zonealarm running and setiathome, fah, and gah.
Folding@Home
ScanRegistry
TaskMonitor
PCHealth
SystemTray
LoadPowerProfile
UpdReg
NAV DefAlert
Norton Auto-Protect
Norton eMail Protect
seticlient
devldr16.exe
LoadPowerProfile
SchedulingAgent
SSDPSRV
*StateMgr
StillmageMonitor
Machine Debug Manager
TrueVector
MiniLog
ZoneAlarm
Genome@Home

What in there don't I need for everything to still work on my computer with NAV, SETI, and the @homes? Thanks!

You can get rid of the following if you wish:

TaskMonitor
NAV DefAlert - Reminds you of Antivirus Alerts (Useless if you check them regularly)
Norton eMail Protect
SchedulingAgent
MiniLog - Zone Alarm Log
StillmageMonitor
devldr16.exe - questionable

I only have my AV & ZA checked for Startup, I don't need/want the rest.

So I can or cannot get rid of Debug Manager? O yea..the devldr16.exe could be a virus. I am going to send it into SARC for investigation.

StillmageMonitor is needed for the HP scanner he no doubt has hooked up. Removing it from startup will cause the scanner to not work at all.

Thats odd. Still Image monitor loads up on one of my PC's and there is no scanner of any kind hooked up to it.

You can safely disable EVERYTHING in that startup group except explorer, system tray, and the 2 Load power profiles and ALL of your applications will still work. It is wise to keep video & sound apps running though. And yes, the scanner will still work! When you go to scan something, it will just take about 30 seconds for a warmup period before the first scan.

If you want the others programs running at boot, let em there.
No one has any right to force data on you
and command you to believe it or else.
If it is not true for you, it isn't true.

I have a UMAX scanner not an HP. I don't think that is made by HP nor Umax or has anything to do with a scanner.

StillImageMonitor is also used for Digital Cameras. I have a Toshiba camera I plug into the USB port to upload images. Without the StillImageMonitor a connection with the camers cannot be established.
