I'm not much of an SUV type, but if ya have kids a big honkin SUV is the only way to go. Also, roadtrips in SUVs are tops. Keep an eyeball on the headlights.fogs as Chevy's tend to have flakey ones.

Bigger rims would give an even harsher ride and in all likelihood require larger brakes.
