Post by tHE_0ne »

I have a single core(specs in sig), newegg has a cheap x2 939 chip for $90 shipped.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Toledo 2.0GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3800DAA5CD - OEM

Should I go with it? Will I notice that much of a difference?

Well you won't notice anything for gaming, but for any multitasking stuff I think you would notice a big difference.

I upgraded from the same processor to a x2 3800+ the day they were released.

In every way, shape and form; you will see a difference. The 3800 is an amazing chip and I do not regret paying $425 for it at the time.

good luck and go for it.

I bought One - Going from a AMD 3200 to the 3800 X2 939 -it will be here Monday from Newegg

Do you need the drivers from AMD ?

that's the amd dual-core patch from AMD. Is it necessary? no. However, it will give you better optimization for your dual cores.

and a very cool howdy-do to you too Hypertension!
