nic to nic gigabit via crossover?

Post by Zmoney »

I do alot of large file swapping between my server and my main comp and my 10/100 router is slowing me down. I dont really have the cash for a new gigabit router but i do have a extra gigabit nic in each computer. Can i just use a crossover cable and network em?

Bonus problem... I want file transfers to use the crossover cable but i want normal internet and bittorrent data sent over the other nic that goes to my router.

any ideas?

Giga-nics are usually auto-direction sensing...so you most likely don't even need a crossover cable..just a minimum of CAT5e.

Unbinding file and print sharing services from your 10/100 NICs going to the router. On your TCP settings for the giga nics....select a different IP range than your router...and simply don't put in a gateway.
