Best for what?

If you're talking network performance..honestly, quite similar. Yes a good quality PCI or AGP based NIC will have lower CPU utilization and higher throughput across the LAN. But for online use..internet access, you won't notice a difference. I've sat there and watch a USB based NIC go toe to toe with a 3COM 905 PCI NIC (one of the best) on a 6 meg DSL line..both of them banging downloads at near all 6 megs. On the same PC..this was a direct comparison.

For hardcore online gamers..you want good hardware controller based peripherals, so yes a good PCI or AGP based NIC is preferred..frees up CPU for the game. But for the average user..no difference.

Yeah..that case..I'd go with a good hardware controller based PCI or the onboard NIC. USB is a bit more CPU intensive.

The 1394 one is indeed a Firewire connection

The NVIDIA nForce MCP networking controller is, or rather sounds like it`s an onboard NIC, Dunno where this stands with what has already been said regarding using a PCI NIC.
