TCP/IP help

Post by jongru »

Hi All,

I've got some wonderful advice from some members and here I am again. Could someone give me a diagram of the flow of Ip and tcp addresses through my system. I am still not able to grasp the concept....I need to see the flow of the action:

I have: A desktop tower xp hard wired to a Linksys Broadband router (WRK54G) which is direct connected to a dsl modem. My router has 4 ports on the back and an antenna on the right hand side. I assume that means it is broadcasting the internet???? I am trying to use a Toshiba Laptop with a Linksys Pc adapter card to connect with the router to share a printer and the internet.....been trying for almost two weeks...no luck. If I hard wire the Toshiba laptop, I am able to use the internet flawlessly.

Am I missing something here? I am beginning to believe I need a Wireless access point that will connect my laptop (wirelessly) to the Broadband router???? Is this the way to do it can I use the router with the antenna on it (WRK54G) to do the same thing????

Tried messing with Ip and configurations, never understanding what I am doing and really need some basic tcp/ip diagrams with sample numbers that I can then use to set up the above...Please help me....jongru

Hi Press 2,

My B/Band router is a Linksys wrk54g, DSL modem is an zxyel p600 from Earthlink. I have a laptop (Toshiba Satellite) I have it all up and running. I thought the problem would need an access point in between the Laptop and Desktop. Wrong....an IT geek friend of mine set it all up. My original problem was that I never set up the Home Network in the first place. So nothing was in touch with nothing....now it is running perfect on both wired and wireless. Also saved a small fortune not having to spend money for access points and adapter cards.....jongru
