I just buy the game/movie/cd and enjoy it.

The only way to eliminate bad titles and spyware is to get invitied into a small private torrent community.

Use either uTorrent, or Azureus, those are the two most popular. uTorrent has very small footprint, coded in C, Azureus is Java, takes more memory/CPU. Both have all the important features.

My preference for most is still lime wire pro, and I do use Kazaa lite from time to time. Yea..I heard the groans on that one!

However, the only thing I download is music, and that could be a huge difference I suppose.

Utorrent FTW!!!! Randy you may have to forward some ports if you have a router. I have been using utorrent and every once in a while I will fire up Ares. :)

Lime Wire run w/ Peer Guardian.

Safe.

Lime Wire comes w/ absolutely no bundled malware. Peer Guardian keeps the peeps blocked.

uTorrent is good and my choice for P2P but you can't beat Newsgroups...a bit more complicated to learn in the beginning but worth it to me.

Limit your upload to around 65% max and unplug your router unless you have a good one.

Windows socket error 10054

My upload is limited to 1K, un plugging my router is not an option.

I have endian firewall running as my router on a P4 2.9ghz box, WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware acting as a switch and SBS 2k server as DNS and doing DHCP.

I'm dling at 8K/sec and not uploading at all.

EDIT what is this DHT 140 nodes?

Would lowering Global connections and Max connected peers help?

Set the ports on utorrent to 6881~6999. Enable UPnP on the router, and add a startup script in the Administration section so it can handle all those connections.

Code: Select all

echo 16384 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_max
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_ignore_bogus_error_responses
echo 512 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/neigh/default/gc_thresh1
echo 2048 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/neigh/default/gc_thresh2
echo 4096 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/neigh/default/gc_thresh3
echo "600 1800 120 60 120 120 10 60 30 120" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_conntrack_tcp_timeouts
Reset router and look for some nice po...corn torrents. :D

Edit: The above is for the WRT54G acting as a router, I dunno how to configure that Endian Firewall you got there. Lowering the Global connections and Max connected peers could help some.

I would be very careful about which search sites you use.
Not implying that anyone would download copyrighted material but some search sites have been told that they must hand their log files to the MPAA in a proactive manner to catch any unsavory characters...

Simply run adaware, spybot, ZoneAlarm, HijackThis, AVG, update windows daily, have a router, don't open e-mail, turn off action scripting, don't use P2P networks, don't violate EULAs, and wear a condom to get Windows secured.

People say Linux is alot of work!
