Hi there,
I use a Speedtouch 546 for my ADSL modem. Behind the modem i've put an Asus WL-500gP router, which connects to 1 wired PC, two wirelss PC's and a wireless mediaplayer.
Now both modems are set to act in their defailt setting: home gateway, all option enabled. Both use a different subnet (192.168.1.x (speedtouch ADSL) and 192.168.0.x (Asus wirelss router) and there don't seem to be any problems. The Speedtouch has firewall, UPnP and NAT enabled, on the Asus the firewall is turned off., the rest is working.
Are there any drawbacks on this configuration?
Possible conflict or speed problems?

IMO, for optimal performance and problem free setup...I don't like double NAT'ing..which is what you're doing here with 2x routers back to back.
Sure "most" internet programs work OK with this....but if you're a hardcore online gamer, or wish to do some remote access programs, or other things that are already a handful to run through a firewall..having them jump through two hoops isn't what you want.
What I do...is usually reconfigure the ISP supplied gateway..into a pure bridged modem..and use my own router for the PPPoE and only instance of NAT.
Or...if you like your ISP supplied gateway..but it's not wireless..and you wish to run wireless..but all you have is a wireless router...convert it into just an access point.
*Change LAN IP of your wireless router to be in the same range as your modem/router..but outside the DHCP pool (such as 192.168.1.2, or 192.168.1.253 <==probably safer)
*Disable DHCP on your wireless router
*Uplink your Asus..to your speedtouch..using a LAN port on your Asus...you will not use the WAN port of your Asus. Now you're pretty much just using it as an access point..bypassing the router feature altogether. DHCP will flow through it from your Speedtouch.
Some wireless routers have a feature built into their web admin options to flip them to "AP Mode".
