SBC DSL Wireless Router requesting a Network Key

Post by ksuflash »

So I am moving in with my fiance. She has an SBC DSL Wireless package that she has installed.

Being that I have a laptop with built in wireless, I thought I would just connect to her wireless router and go on about my business.....Problem is it looks to be locked down with encryption. I keep getting asked what my network key is. I have no idea what it is, she has no idea either. All she did was install the SBC CD and went on about her business.

Due to my laptop is for work, I really dont want to install the CD just so that I can get to her router. There is alot more junk on that CD than I wish to deal with.

My question is 2 fold.

1. Anyone know what the default SBC DSL Wireless Router Network Key is?

2. Anyone know where I can find it, or better yet how can I get around having to type it in?

As of right now, I can't get on the internet at her house due to this encryption stuff.

Thanks in advance,

Ben

In the routers web admin settigns page is should be listed un something liek wireless, or wireless security.

Not surewhat the IP would be to get to the web admin, should be somethign like 192.168.1.1 but it could be different. Hopefully you have some documentation left on it.

2Wire..here's a demo web admin page
http://shastademo.2wire.com/

No default key...she set it up when she ran it. But you can log into the router and change it. Naturally you'd have to change her PC also. Can do everything with the web admin...you don't need that CD. I think the default LAN IP for the 2Wire is 192.168.1.254..run an IPCONFIG on her PC and you'll see it..gateway and DHCP server.

Look on the bottom of the router.

Look at the bottom of the 2Wire Unit. The WEP key should be next to the Serial Number.
