Domain login on XP

Post by nevermind65 »

Hello,

Somehow, my login password got changed. I am able to login under "administrator" witht he appropriate password, but when I go to login under the Domain I use for work, I get a message stating password is incorrect.

I've found plenty of software that will allow me to bypass the administrator login, but nothing that will bypass or change the domain login.

Anybody got a way of either finding this password or changing it?

Thanks.

The administrator of the domain would be able to set a new password for you.

That's what I am doing. I tried a lot of different things, but due to the domain, nothing works.

Thanks.

So the IT administrator is not telling you the password? Is this some business network..you've been locked out of or something?

I'm not following your goal here....is this computer connected to a business network? Is there an IT person in charge of it?

It is connected to a business domain. For whatever reason, the password on my computer (which is at home) was changed. I have no clue why. When I log in under administrator, it doesn't show the users (myself), so there is no way to change the password.

We use Microsoft Exchange, and through an online page, I can log into the server and view my email, so the password has not been changed throughout the network.

To be honest, I've never seen a set-up like this one.

Thanks.

It sounds like the local profile was lost. Are you logging in remotely - through a VPN or something?

As far as I can tell, the local profile is still there. I'm just missing the password according to the login message I'm getting.

Our computer department will be there tomorrow. I'll just wait and give them a call. The one computer guy has a profile set in my computer under the same domain name. Maybe he can use his password to login and change my password back. I'm assuming he gave himself administrator rights.

If you're truely, correctly logging into the domain..if the IT guy has changed your password..you would be able to log in using that password. If not..he can change it again..and within a second you'd be able to log in using that password he just gave you a second ago.

That's how Windows networking works. The "domain login" is completely separate from a "local login". The domain admin account is automatically granted local admin rights the moment you join a domain with an NT workstation.

Your IT guys can use their Administrator account to log into your computer and affect changes..however, it's not needed. They just use MMC on their end..and reset your password.
