my pc does not detact the external drive, pls help.
do i need to click start and run anything?

Right click on "My Computer" and select "Manage"
Under "Disk Management" there should be a listing for it.
If you have only 1 hard drive then that should be disk 0, and teh external, probably usb? that should be disk 1 and underneath it would say "removeable"
You can then choose to format it, and then it will be listed with your regular hard drive.
