Trouble getting sound installed on laptop

Man, this thing is being a sonofabiscuit eater.
Gateway MX6027
Reloading windows and cant get the sound card drivers to take.
Intel ich4 82801db(m) - AC'97 Audio Controller [b-1] - according to Aida32

downloaded the drivers directly from gateway using the serial number off the laptop. I've tried running the setup from the folder and i've also tried to manually install them. when i try to manually install them it bsod's and reboots. Then the dvdrom stops working so i end up using system restore.

Any ideers???

try going to http://www.drivermagic.com and download the Driver Wizard software. It might give you another driver to use. Usually a generic AC97 audio driver, which should work.

Though I've never experienced a problem from a Gateway driver like that before, usually the manufactuer drivers work fine, even though they are usually outdated.

only thing i can think of is that the sound card is fubarred.

only problem is there are sooo many different versions of the ac'97 controller, a generic driver prolly won't work. still wortha shot though.

wow...it worked. Didn't notice the wizard part until i tried a few searches but the wizard worked out great. Thanks for the tip
