Incredible small download and the maps are nothing short of spectacular. Wall jumps rock, this game is free and absolutely fantastic in every way. They have special effects that take advantage of modern graphics technology.

This game is gaining momentum exponentially and is attracting a real competitive crowd.

Mark my words, this will be a hit at Quakecon.

I looked around for it...didn't find it. Although you can drop the console..wonder if typing it in manually would work. I'll try tonight.

Trying to browse for active servers came up empty.

You don't need to have Q2 installed...this download spits out a zipped file, just extract it..run the exe file from right there..don't even have to install it.

Q2 was very small bandwidth...we could stick this on our teamspeak server.

I downloading it on the TeamSpeak server
69.182.171.59
It's a Windows 2000 Server box...Pentium 3 800MHz with a gig of RAM. Not a ball of fire...but should run this game fine...as the Quake 2 engine was out in the days of 300MHz machines and we ran some heavy duty Quake 2 servers back then on 400 and 600MHz boxes just fine. Bandwidth..she gets about 6 megs down, 2 megs up. Q2 servers ran fine on a 1/2 meg of bandwidth for 30 users or so.

Anyways...I'm rusty on RCON and config stuff..but if someone wants remote access to the server to set this up...PM me. I downloaded it...fired it up briefly..but should have the configs edited...RCON setup on it 'n stuff to lock her down.

It's running under the name "Speedguide.Net"

I set it for FFA (Free For All..Deathmatch), max clients of 24.

If it doesn't show up in the browser (I noticed sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't)...just drop your console (you'll see "console" in main menu)..and type it "connect 69.182.171.59" without the quotes. Just like we used to do in the old Q1 days.

Some tips...

When you log into the server..you have to click "Join" again..at the menu. Then click "Ready"...when levels restart. Can shortcut this..F3 and F4.

Quake style deathmatch...keep an eye on your health and armor..keep them recharged.

Use wall jumping to your advantage in this game...

You have to give it 15 - 20 seconds to poll the master servers after you click "search" at the bottom of that page. We're showing fine, I've been playing on 'n off all morning so far.

Usually less than 15. Although I generally only wait long enough for our server to popup in the browser list.

Some tips.....

*Hit F3 and F4 soon as you log into the server..you need to do those 2 things.."Join"...and "Ready". Else you'll just be spectating and wondering how to play.

*Always keep your health up...keep snagging those health packs
*Always replentish your armor..keep an eye on it...snag every armor pack you see. When you snag it..it prevents someone else from getting it until it spawns again.
*Upgrade your weapon right away. As you notice..that peashooter you spawn with is quite useless unless you keep bumping into someone.

At least get the shotgun..it's great for up close blasting...combine a shotgun, up close combat, with good circle strafing techniques..and you can take out any rocket jockey.

Rail gun has good damage...needs some precision shooting

Grenade launcher is fun...toss one into someones face that you are running towards, or lob them up ahead of you if someone is chasing you...you'll run past it..hopefully with good timing it will blow up as your pursuer gets to them. Or lob a bunch into a room that has a meelee of players in it. :D

Don't ignore those powerup goodies.

Leap off of the walls as you run...use those wall surfaces.

Well, just as I expected, this game has become a major hit. It's is now part of CAL. I wouldn't be surprised if you came across Fatal1ty in a server now lol. You can read the article here:

http://caleague.com/

So if you wanted to compete and possible be shoutcasted, signup!!!!!

It's a cool game. I really dig it.
