Hello,
This is my first time here so please be gentle....
I recently upgraded to the new Extreme Shaw service DSL that uses the new
Motorola Surfboard DSL modem.
I am getting only about 1.5 mbps download speed using win98SE or Win ME.
I have three hard drives one with win98se, one with winME and one with winXPhomeV2.
All the hard drives are the same and so is all the other hardware.
On win 98se and ME I can only get about 1.5 mbps download using the
http://www.speakeasy.net test website or any other for that matter.
On winXP I get about 7.0 mbps ???
What is the problem?
I have the same hardware installed for each OS.
If you have the answer, it could be worth a small fortune.
ISP's are screaming for answers, do you have it? Their own people can't
even figure this out.
Maybe it would be easier to just write a book on a sequel to Kil Bill? Joke!!
Or start another Law class action.
The problem is that many of the programs I run will only/probably only work
on win98 or ME.
I am stuck there for the time being, in the twilite zone.
It would take me many days or a lot longer and at substantual costs to upgrade
the system and much software to test and be compatible with win XP.
Remember there are a lot of Systems still running 98, WinMe etc. out there.
So who has the answer??

Xp does have a compalablity mode if you right click the exe file that runs that program you can have that application run in 9x/2000 mode
also with the 98 take a analyzer test you might need a patch to get those speeds up. YOu shouldn't need three 0s's the same applications will work if you just upgrade from 98 to xp in theory try that compability mode first though.

Cablenut solved the problem under windows98se.
Used the default setting and the speed jumped
from 1.5mbps to 7.1mpbs.
I am still reading through all the other in info
like the readme1st file, very interesting stuff.
Just want to thank you for the fast reply
Your a genius!!
