Home network "newbie"

Post by conceicaon »

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all your help as of recently, i've been currently working on setting up my home network. "this consists of 3 machies"

They are all connected using a rounter static ips ect... "MSHOME" the same user is on all 3 under admin groups "same username and same password"

the problem i have is when i use Damon NT and connect to altername machines it says the user is not part of admin group even though i am there on all 3 .. any suggestions. "the user does have admin rights"

Am i missing something??

Another quick problem i am having is when i enable my windows built on firewall everything stops working "it's that good lol" but really how do i find out what exemptions to allow .? ports ect..

one 1 machine i am running a simple FTP and remote assistance program
one the second machine i am running port 80 "webbrowser" and remote assistance program.

I assume i simply right the exceptions in the firewall port 80 ect.. ??

Thanks for all your help.

If you are using a Router then there is No point to use Windows XP Native Firewall (ICF). WinXP ICF control only Incoming (like the Router), the advantage of a regular Software Firewall is that it is also controls Outgoing.

You probably are better of using another software Firewall ( Basic Protection for Broadband Internet Installation. )

Once you decide on a Firewall you have to put your LAN IPs in the trusted Zone. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted
