Interesting concept, not sure how well these folks that work at this plant are taking this.

I read that this morning- fabulous. Way it should be. The good dedicated UAW workers like to shoot off their mouths about how they deserve this, and they deserve that. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them to have enough faith in what they build to drive it!
Observe everything...focus on nothing..
Ford is in the same boat as GM...
Due to some pretty lackluster years, due to an inablility to foresee that most people want reliablitly and good gas milage, they make what people won't buy..
Them 30,000 jobs? That should come right off the top of the heap.
As to having to buy what you build? Plain silly to suggest that they do. It's the USA. Freedom to choose, right?
As to Ford's parking lots. It's their property. They can do with it what they will. I'd simply buy an old junker and drive it to work. How about a 63 Fairlane?

No....top heads should roll for being so shortsighted. The board of directors should also be replaced. On top of closing all those plants and laying off 30,000 people.twwabw wrote:So they should keep the plant open, and keep everyone on the payroll right? lol![]()
I wonder what impact this will have on the ecomony. In those areas, it's going to be devastating.
no, what I'm saying is ... all these folks are losing their jobs, towns are taking a big hit to their economy where these plants are located ...twwabw wrote:So they should keep the plant open, and keep everyone on the payroll right? lol![]()
I don't see why the people that still work for Ford can't drive what they want to drive and park it in Ford's precious parking lot ...
.

Being forced to buy what you build is a ridiculous concept! Like DH said, this is the USA, you should be able to drive whatever the hell you want without worries! Maybe if American companies built quality vehicles on par with Japanaese and Euro vehicles, they wouldn't have these problems.

The 63 Fairlane aint bad, I would go with a 78 Mustang II, 76 Pinto, actually just about any Ford car from the mid to late seventies.downhill wrote:

Blisster wrote:maybe ALL companies in the US should demand that thier employees only drive american made cars, and consume american made products, and wear american made clothing, etc.
That would be kinda hard to to.
We'd have no TV's, no electronics...no motherboards for the puters, very few clothing companies to choose from. Few shoes, few appliances if any, even lumber for houses would be hard to come by.
We live in a new global economy, no doubt about it but imho there isn't any reason why our car companies have to be going out of business and locating overseas IF they decided to make a product that Americans want instead of what they want to produce.
Hey...we could still get memory from Micron!!
It's the whole principle of the matter. Sure, they're not forced to buy Fords, but on those cold days when you have to trek across the parking lot, which I would assume is massive, you WILL be pissed when you realize that you have to do that because you prefer to drive a Toyota. Yes, it is silly that Ford would resort to such tactics when it's their own fault that their cars suck balls.Augustus wrote:i dont see how they are being forced to buy anything? they just can only drive fords in the lot..not a big deal..i think it silly..

But, you'll all distort it into many other things. Pretty funny

Yes, it is very unreasonable.twwabw wrote:Always funny to watch everyone over-react and distort the entire subject. Nobody told them they couldn't drive what they want. You know you'd be in great physical shape after driving those for a while, all that pushing
My son ... ask for thyself another internet connection, for that which I leave is too slow for thee
Lets not forget that all US Companies should also be forced to hire only US continent based employees as well. Enough of this outsourcing crap from the Phillipines, India and Pakistan. I buy something here and spend US $ , so I wanna speak to an American when I call for a problem or question.Blisster wrote:maybe ALL companies in the US should demand that thier employees only drive american made cars, and consume american made products, and wear american made clothing, etc.

The company that supports his wallet?...until he gets laid off from poor management decisions.... Where this sense of obligation to an employer comes from just because a person works for them I don't know.... An employee couldn't dictate this sort of behavior why should they?twwabw wrote:Always funny to watch everyone over-react and distort the entire subject. Don't unions do just that? What happens if they don't get what they want?Izzo wrote: An employee couldn't dictate this sort of behavior why should they?
All in all, the tactic seems a bit ridiculous, just as ridiculous as the Union Headquarters preventing US servicemen from parking foreign cars in the parking lot they had been allowed to use before...anyone remember that story?
I smell a strike coming for that plant.

actaully the union is behind Ford the article says..which is kind of funny..in fact most employees are behind it as well..just seems like a few are really upset..i say dont like it find a new job no one forcing them to work for Ford last i checked lol
They did the same thing at the local jeep plant, if you chose not to drive one of there products you parked in the back rows of the lot, 1/2 mi walk.
The strike talk lasted 2 days once they said theyed move the plant south of the border the strike talked stoped and darn few park in the back.

Blisster wrote:Does ford put any foreign made parts into their automobiles? Is everything manufactured domestically?
If I am not mistaken, the rule was a car needed to be constructed of at least 75% domestic parts. Oddly, there were years when the Ford Crown Victoria was built of fewer "American" components than a Honda Accord.
The aforementioned parking lot ban is hardly novel. It occurs in union shops all over this fair land. I had the honor of working a number of summers as a fork lift operator in a Midas muffler warehouse. Foreign cars had to park at the far end of the lot or risk key damage.
